You would have to agree that stories connected to wine help the consumers pave way to more straightforward and sophisticated drinking pleasure. One of these stories is about Chardonnay from Katovka Vineyard. The vineyard with the most superlatives: the oldest vineyard, the longest organically grown vineyard, the highest located, the most sensitive, the cosiest, the scariest… We planted these grapevines in 1998 with the help of the entire family. Katovka is the first registered organic vineyard in Slovakia ever, at the elevation of 330 m.
The wooden barn with stone foundation in this 3 ha vineyard belonged to a local executioner, as was the custom at that time, located outside of town and secluded.
When my father gave me a green light to work with Chardonnay with the creative freedom I instantly knew what to name the wine – simply Katovka. (note: “kat” means “executioner” in Slovak, “Katovka” roughly translates to “Executionare’s wine.”)
I wanted to pay homage to the unique character of the place and shine a light on the location instead of the variety.

Year 2020 – grapes from a well-rooted vineyard, macerated for three days, pressed and subsequent processes finished off in a concrete egg. After a year, bottled without filtering, clarification or sulphur addition. To me it is one of the liveliest wines, bursting with energy, acidity, gentle and naturally sparkling, with hard-to-describe aromas and flavours. I am very happy to have been able to intertwine this unique place with my creative thoughts.
